PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
November 16, 2004

NOTE TO THE EDITOR: Because of the sensitivity of what this soldier is doing in Iraq and the fact that he is being trained for something that requires anonymity, I cannot use his name in the press release. I spoke with his mother on the phone, and I encourage you to consider doing a story from her perspective. She is involved in a support group of parents, wives and girlfriends from all over (including Germany) who have a loved one in her son's company. She meets the men coming home every week. It's a story about what this mother is doing to still feel tied to her son even though he is in Iraq, to continue to give to others (returning soldiers and support group members) and to not let the worry for his safety overcome her.

Thank you for your attention to this press release and your consideration of the potential story. Please call or email me if you would like her name and number or you can call Robbie or Kim at the salon, 972-317-4384.

Santa for Soldiers

What began as a simple thank you to a soldier for serving his country in Iraq has become a major Santa drive for all of the soldiers in his platoon!

When Robbie Hudson-Meeks at Cloud 9 Salon and Spa decided to send a thank you to a young man serving in Iraq who, with his family, has been a client of the salon for many years, she asked his mom what she could include with it. His mother told Robbie that one of the things the soldiers look forward to is movie night with popcorn. Unfortunately, the popcorn wrappers melted onto the popcorn kernels in the 150 degree plus heat, and there was no popcorn for movie night. So Robbie sent popcorn. The note of appreciation she received for what she considered to be such a simple gesture spurred her on to an even bigger idea.

Every year the team of stylists and technicians at Cloud 9 Salon and Spa adopt families for Christmas and involve customers by asking them to contribute. This year, why not adopt a platoon of soldiers!

Donations can be brought to the salon at 1860 FM 407 in Highland Village. Some of the requested items (preferably individually packaged) are disposable cameras, socks, wet wipes, comedy DVDs, battery operated fans or misters (and batteries, of course), word game & puzzle books and ready-to-eat chicken salad and tuna. A more detailed list is available at the salon, and you can call 972-317-4384.
