Lakeland Elementary and Cloud 9 Team Up
for Locks of Love Hair Raiser

The students at Lakeland Elementary School in Lewisville are learning that there are things other than money that can be donated to a worthy cause-time, love . . . and hair! Jeanna Adams, Special Education Resource Aide, hopes they can "raise" 600 inches of hair for Locks of Love. Ms. Adams is certain they will reach their goal "since the first hair raiser in 2003 resulted in 317 inches of donated hair, and they had only three weeks notice! They've known about this one and have been growing their hair for a long time, and I keep the excitement going by walking the halls with my ruler to measure hair lengths."

The hair stylists at Cloud 9 Salon and Spa are donating their time to do the cuts and styles for the donors on Thursday evening, April 14, from 6 to 8pm at Lakeland. Kim Cloud-Gracey, owner of Cloud 9, and her team welcome opportunities like this to help others. They are especially fond of projects that benefit kids and have done fund raisers for Kidd's Kids, PediPlace and New Horizons Children's Home. They are no strangers to the Locks of Love organization as several of the local makeovers done at the Salon and published in local newspapers have resulted in donations to Locks of Love.

Locks of Love meets a unique need for children throughout the US by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. It is a nonprofit organization providing hair pieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 18. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to alopecia areata, a disease with no known cause or cure. Others have suffered severe burns or treatment to cancer. The hairpieces provided by Locks of Love help restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

The Hair Raiser is just part of what is planned for April 14 at Lakeland. It is also Family Fun Night with a Book Fair promoting the Literacy Reading program. For more information, contact Jeanna Adams at 972-436-2712.
